Any interest the West Riding County Amateur League had of making progress in The FA National League System Cup was ended by the Yorkshire Old Boys' League.

They ran out 3-0 winners to book a place in the final eight of the competition.

Despite proven goal-scorers Jordan Missin (Albion Sports) and Tom Mathews (Meltham Athletic) coming into the squad, the County Amateur League's front line made little impression in the first half against the tall defence.

And it came as no surprise when Sam Clark gave the Old Boys the lead after 30 minutes. Mathews created two chances to put the County Amateur side back on level terms, only to put his efforts over the bar.

A change of tactics in the second half failed to break down the visitors¢ï¿½ï¿½ defence, and two goals in the final 20 minutes from Steve Tierney and Mathew Jackson left the County Amateur side dejected.

In Division One, leaders Hunsworth maintained their unbeaten league start with a 3-2 home victory over Eastmoor, Ashley Thompson, Stuart McCallum and Steve Oakes netting for Hunsworth. Devon McIntosh and Jordan Corfield replied for the visitors.

Salts, with two goals from Wayne Walsh, and others from Stuart Burgess, Declan Corby and Kristan Hargreaves moved back to second with a 5-3 win at Heckmondwike.

Steeton also returned to winning ways with a 4-2 success at Overthorpe. Lee Reilly grabbed a brace to add to efforts from John Ogalbe and Mark Wilson.

Ventus/Yeadon Celtic kept up their bid for promotion, despite blowing a 3-0 lead at Dudley Hill Rangers. Terry Hargreaves treble put them in control but Adie Howard, Danny Sharkey and Sam Morton denied them victory.

Crag Road United picked up their second success in Division Two with a 4-1 home win over fellow strugglers Morley. Ben Wilkinson netted twice to add to Danny Firth and Paul Moorhouse goals.

Missin called up to face Old Boys Thursday, 12 November 2009

Albion Sports striker Jordan Missin is among four players added to the West Riding County Amateur League representative squad for their match against the Yorkshire Old Boys League at Campion's Manningham Mills ground on Saturday (1.30pm).

Tom Mathews (Meltham Athletic), Liam Rothery (Golcar United) and Paul Pike (Bay Athletic) are the others brought in for the second round FA (Carlsberg) National League System Cup tie.

Otherwise, boss Stephen Smith keeps faith with the same players that beat the Northamptonshire Combination League 4-1 in the first round.

With a place in the last eight up for grabs and a spot in the UEFA Regions Cup for the competition winners, the stakes are high.

Old Boys won 5-4 in the preliminary round away to the Cumberland County League and beat the Cheshire League 3-1 in the first round.

West Riding County Amateur League squad: Chris Moroney, Richard Ingram, Liam Brompton, Chris Gent, Stephen Fullard (Ovenden WR); Dion Smith, Lee Mozley, Robert Morris, Scott Fulton (Storthes Hall); Mat Devlin, Liam Rothery, Keiran Ryan (Golcar United), Steve Perrin, Paul Pike (Bay Athletic); Tom Mathews (Meltham Athletic), Andy Benjamin (Campion), John Selby (Tyersal), Jordan Missin (Albion Sports), Ernest Boafo (Lower Hopton).

There are no matches in the Premier Division but in Division One, leaders Hunsworth will be looking to put behind them last week's defeat in the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup against Wetherby Athletic and extend their unbeaten league run to nine games when Eastmoor are their opponents at Birkenshaw.

Second-placed Bronte Wanderers are at Littletown, who are just one point behind on 15 points, whilst Salts visit level-pegging Heckmondwike Town.
